Senegalese sentenced for mobile theft

Magistrate Fattoumata Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Omar Jobe, a Senegalese to serve a three-month community services following his guilty plea to a theft charge.

Mr. Jobe was accused of stealing a Samsung mobile phone from Modou Lamin Camara on 11th January, at Tippa Garage in Bokoteh. The phone is said to cost six thousand dalasi.

Giving her judgment, Magistrate Darboe said she listened to the facts as narrated by the prosecution and as confirmed in Mr. Jobe’s own assertion, all the essential elements of stealing as provided under Section 244 and 245 of the Criminal Code was established.

She said Section 256 (a) provides that a person found of stealing from a person is liable five years imprisonment conviction

She then released Mr. Jobe on probation to serve 3 months community service with the Gambia police force at Serrekunda. She said she took the decision by the power granted to act by Section 267 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
