Gambia 16th September 2019 - Seedstars World, the largest seed-stage startup
competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, brought its
Banjul round to a successful close during startups pitched Banjul. The event took
place last Friday, at the Paradise Suites Hotel, and 9 selected startups were
invited to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.
The local winner, Nadji.Bi Gambia Ltd was named “Best Startup in The Gambia” for its innovative sustainable solution which is a solar solution for a 1.3 million potential customer base.
Besides representing The Gambia at the Seedstars Africa Summit, the winner will win an all-inclusive trip to the Seedstars Africa Summit and the chance to win a spot at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland where the winner will take home a 500K USD investment prize In addition, the winner will receive 3 months access to the investment readiness program.
The 9 startups pitched in front of a prestigious jury, including that consists Fatim Badjie Sinyan - CEO, Ace Communications Executive; Saul Frazer - Managing Director & Chief Executive Director, Global Properties; Mbaye Kah - Manager, Khamsys Technologies Ltd; Seedy Bensouda - CEO and Founder, InSIST Global; Muhammad M. Jagana - CEO, J-Financial Services Ltd; Suwaibou Cham - Senior Expert, Private Sector Development GIZ; Ramatoulie B Gaye - CEO, Bridging Gaps Advisory.
The Ambassador of Seedstars World for Gambia, David Jeng of Bliss Executives organized the event with Seedstars World’s bronze partner YEP. Further support was provided by the EU, ITC, GAIN and Paradise Suites Hotel.
Seedstars Banjul also featured a fireside chat on Accessing Funding Through Angel Networks for your startup/SGB with Alieu Senghore from Gambia Angel Investor Network, GAIN.
ANG CAPITAL which provides instant loans and easy payments for transactions online with or without the use of the internet “FACH SA SOHLAA SII SASSI” came second and Yobuma Transportation which is Gambia’s first city bus service with cashless travel grabbed the last spot in the top 3. The other startups invited to pitch were AFRI BLACK COMMUNITY, eDeals, Jollof-Trade Online B2B/B2C Marketplace, Madani Studios, Nesthet Clinical Services, and Tesitoo Entrepreneurship.
