National Senior team head coach Tom Saintfield said his team’s 1-1 draw with
Algeria in their Saturday 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was a good
result, saying he is proud of his players for sticking to his game plan.
During a press conference shortly after the Saturday encounter at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Coach Saintfield said before the game, they already knew the qualities of the Algerian players which helped them to establish their game plan. He expressed delights after sharing the points with the Deserve Foxes.
The Scorpions played a 1-1 draw with Algeria in their second Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers group D match.
Saintfield further praised his players’ efforts for sticking on their game plan, even though they have some setbacks for some of the players who did not come, noting that they have trained together for four days ahead of the game.
“We stick to our game plan. We defended very well and created more chances than them. It was a setback when Algeria scored us out of nothing when the defenders made some mistake but we also responded very quickly,” he said.
According to him, he is proud of the result knowing that their next games will be different because Togo and Benin are different from Algeria.
But Algeria’s Coach expressed disappointment for the draw, saying his players were not comfortable playing under that big crowd and knowing that they were insecure.
He said they came to collect the maximum point but ended up picking a draw. He said the draw is good for them and that they will go back to improve on their game plans ahead of the subsequent games.
