A gang of youths at the village of Sare Mamadi in the Tumana District of Upper River Region (URR) have obstructed and assaulted three police officers as they tried to make some arrest at the said village.

One of the police officers has had his hand broken, with the windscreen of their vehicles damaged, our source said.

The Point has also been informed that some youths were arrested and are currently helping the police in their investigation.

According to our source, the matter came about after an assault case from the said village was reported at the Basse Police Station in which the three officers were assigned to go and arrest the accused. Upon their arrival, some youths insisted that there would be no arrest leading to a confrontation, which ended up the police officers being beaten.

When contacted, the police in Basse have confirmed the matter, but declined to give specifics about the numbers of arrestees.
