Tom Saintfiet has explained striker Bubacarr Steve Trawally’s omission from the
country’s national team for their crunch 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier
against Algeria next month in Banjul.
He announced Trawally’s omission from the squad during a press conference held at the Football House in Kanifing East Layout yesterday.
Saintiet revealed that Trawally has played for The Gambia senior national team five times with zero goals, adding that Musa Barrow and Assan Ceesay were selected for the clash against the Desert Foxes due to their goal scoring form with their respective clubs.
He further revealed that they are yet to receive money from government prior to the game against Algeria.
He disclosed that Trawally is doing extremely well in the Chinese Suliga banging more goals for his team in this year’s league campaign.
He stated that his team selection was based on the player’s performance, noting that the target is to beat Algeria.
He further stated that the Gambia has never qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations before, saying that they have a very strong team that can qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations this time around.
