giants FC Porto has sent Gambian defender Saidy Janko out on loan to English
Championship club Nottingham Forest after being considered surplus to the
club’s plans for the season.
Saidy Janko, who is eligible to play for the Scorpions, joined FC Porto on a four-year deal early July. He was dropped from the Portuguese club’s pre-season squad after a friendly match where the coach expressed disappointment in the performance of some of his players including Janko.
The coach Sérgio Conceição, later asked the club to find options for the players whom he deemed surplus to requirements at the club.
The former Manchester United and Celtic defender has now found an escape route after Forest, came calling for his services, although on a season-long loan deal.
The 22-year-old right-back left French club AS Saint-Étienne for Porto in early July. He was sold to Saint-Étienne in 2017 by Celtic and his fine form in France earned him a move to the European giants.
He started being noticed at FC Zürich and Manchester United kept an eye on him. In 2013, he moved to England, at just 17 years old, he was named Reserve Player of the Year by the end of his first season.
