a ChildFund The Gambia affiliated Federation operating in Kombo East and
Central, on Monday made a disbursement of 425, 000 dalasis to families within
its ten Community Associations (CA) under their family economic empowerment
The disbursement was made in Sotokoi in Kombo East, where they also donated and installed Coos milling machine to the community to support women economic empowerment as well as 242 exercise books and 300 seedlings.
Federation manager Edrisa Cham acknowledged that economic empowerment enables people to make informed decisions in investment. He said the Federation has been undertaking several activities including the provision of potable water and electricity to communities and families.
Mr. Cham said the provision of exercise books targets to enable students attend summer classes. He thanked ChildFund national office for the continued support to his Federation.
Adama Bojang, Brikama Area Council director of planning and development said they appreciate the Federation’s effort in children and youth empowerment and community development.
“Tree planting is important to tackle climate change.”
West Coast Region agriculture director Kaddy Bojang said agriculture is an important economic activity that the Federation has made several investments. “Women must be empowered to help their families because they are contributors to household feeding.”
She said supporting women in their agricultural activities would continue to make positive impact on upgrading families’ status.
ChildFund The Gambia programme manager Nfamara Darboe said they work with partners to support families and reminded the women of Sotokoi that the milling machine will not be beneficial if they see it as a Saama Kairo Federation property.
