Russian fashion designer visits The Gambia

A Russian fashion designer Anna Rykova recently visited The Gambia to discover participants for fashion designing festival in her country this September and to create link between Russia and The Gambia.

She told entertainment journalists shortly before her departure that it is difficult to promote fashion as the industry in most countries is undeveloped. “What you have here in The Gambia are the artisan textile makers which is fashion. We try to conduct have a multi-platform festival just like last year where we would have the art gallery.”


Anna Rykova is an international fashion editor and  stylist, former  Fashion Director of Marie Claire Russia and present ( again)  Fashion Director of Cosmopolitan Russia with 16 years of global experience in Fashion, working in New York, Berlin, Milan, Paris, London, Dubai, Cape Town and Moscow. Being trained as a shoe designer and work as one in the early years of her career, Anna not only knows the industry from the inside, she is also editorially and commercially minded.

Anna has worked and collaborated with personalities like Linda Evangelista, Daria Werbowy, Lydia Hears, Lea Seydoux, Elisa Sednaoui and Rita Ora;  International photographers like Pamela Hanson, Chris Nicholls, Mathieu Cesar, Thomas Lavelle, Jack Waterlot, Yu Tsai and late Matt Irwin; Beauty gurus such as Peter Slavic, Franchesca Talot, Sir John, Olivier Lebrun, Mike Desir, Allan Milroy, Andre Cueto Saavedra, Sasha Nesterchuk, Hung Vanngo and many others.

Lamin Manga, Russian Consular to The Gambia who is facilitating the link between the two countries said the idea of Anna coming to The Gambia is a good opportunity that can create possibility for African designers and artists to have a platform in Russian markets.
