Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja District 9110 in Nigeria has become the latest
institution to donate to the Kanifing General Hospital with the provision of
bedspreads, and pillowcases among others to hospital on Wednesday.
The donation was part of the Rotary Club’s 2019 annual international fellowship exchange with the Rotary Club of Banjul, District 9101, The Gambia.
It’s week-long annual international fellowship exchange with the Rotary Club of Banjul has enhanced the visiting Rotarians to participate in different activities, including visit to different rotary club projects among them the Rotary Centennial Science Laboratory in Kanifing which was built by the Rotary Club of Banjul.
Addressing the visiting Rotarians during a presentation, chief executive officer of Kanifing General Hospital Kebba Manneh thanked them for the gesture, saying they appreciate the Rotary club for partnering with the hospital in their first visit to the country.
Mr. Manneh described the hospital as one of the busiest in the country since its establishment in April 2010, saying it has brought significant reduction in the pressing demand on Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital as it serves over half a million of The Gambia population.
He said the hospital has about 450 staff and 410 beds which, he said does not commensurate with the population it is serving. “There are four main departments in the hospital; internal medicine, pediatric, obstetric and gynecology and surgery which all are supported by different specialised clinics with good service delivery.”
Mr. Manneh said the hospital still faces the challenge of limited bed capacity, specialised area/department, infrastructure, oxygen plant and suitable working environment for doctors and nurses.
Rotarian Kunle Adeniyi, President of the Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja District 9110, Nigeria thanked the host for their hospitality and assured the hospital management of their readiness to work with them as regarding the challenges of the hospital.
Alpha Njie, a member and representative of the hospital’s board of directors also thanked the Rotary club for the donation.
