Reliance
Financial Services FC on Saturday defeated Red Star Family FC 4-1 on penalties,
after their 1-1 draw in regulation time in the final played at the Gunjur
Nyamina Football Field to lift the 2016 pending sponsored Gunjur Nawetan league
title.
Reliance
lost to Red Star 4-1 in the knock out final last Tuesday prior to the
Saturday’s league final and came all out for revenge against the red boys to
clinch the league trophy.
Both
sides made an excellent start to the game and created few goal scoring
opportunities but fail to capitalise on their limited opportunities thus the
first half ended goalless.
Upon
resumption of the game, both side picked up from where they left off in the
first half and mounted pressure on each other’s goal mouth.
Reliance
Finance Services FC opened the scores through defender Fabakary Touray alias
Maxi from the penalty spot after striker Alasanna Marong was brought down
inside the area by Red Star Family FC custodian Lamin Jatta to give the
financial dealers the lead.
Red
Star Family FC fought back for an equalizer and leveled the scores through
substitute Mbemba Fatty in the dying minute of the game from the penalty spot
after right-back Sulayman Darboe alias Fasula was brought down by Yusupha
Touray alias Esso to cancel Fabakary Touray spot kick to make it 1-1.
This
pushed the game into a penalty shootout, which ended 4-1 in favour of Reliance
Financial Services FC.
As
champions, Reliance Financial Services FC walked away with a giant trophy and
cash prized of D20, 000, whilst Red Star Family FC received D15, 000 as the
runners-up.
Sanna
Jallow of Reliance Financial Services FC was awarded the best player, Saikou
Chorr alias Saikou Njie was awarded the leading goal scorer and Reliance
Financial Services FC were awarded the most discipline team.
Green

of appreciation for bankrolling Gunjur summer biggest football fray.
Unity
