2016 Knockout champions Red Star Family FC on Sunday defeated Reliance
Financial Services FC 4-2 on penalties, after their goalless draw in the
regulation time in the final to lift the 2017 Gunjur Super Cup title.
Both sides made an excellent start to the game but the encounter produced few goal-scoring opportunities.
Defender Fabakary Touray alias Maxi could have opened the scores for Reliance Financial Services FC mid-way into the first half but his brilliant free-kick was tipped over the cross-bar by Red Star Family FC custodian Samsidine Bojang alias Badino.
Striker Saiklou Chorr alias Saikou Njie also came very close to opening the tally for Red Star Family FC after slashing through Reliance Financial Services FC’s net-minder Yunus Jatta alias Dady,thus the game ended goalless.
This pushed the game into a penalty shootout, which ended 4-2 in favour of Red Star Family FC.
As champions, Red Star Family FC walked away with a giant trophy and cash prize of D9,000, whilst Reliance Financial Services FC received D6,000 as the runners-up.
The Super Cup final kickoff was taken by Mr Lnl, a representative of Golden Leads Fish Processing Company situated at the Gunjur.
The match was witnessed by Mamkamang Touray, Madi Jatta, Fakebba Senghore, Lamin Jassey alias Paul, Mr Tinting and other important dignitaries.
Golden Leads Fish Processing Company and Green Vision International Real Estate Company are set to sponsor the 2017 Gunjur Nawettan season.
