cup champions -Real de Banjul- have been decorated as champions of the maiden
edition of the Late Alhagie Omar Sey football tournament after defeating
Marimoo FC 2-1 in the final game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau,
Kajali Drammeh opened the scores for Real de Banjul in the 8th minute of the game, just before Yankuba Jallow equalised for the Manjai-based team Marimoo in the 33rd minute.
Alieu Badara Federa gave Real the lead in the 63rd minute after scoring the rebound of Alagie Jawara’s stunning free-kick to crown the Banjul-based team the championship title.
The late Omar Sey tournament was conceived by the GFF Executive Committee and approved by its stakeholders at the Club Management Meeting. The initiative is applauded by many as a way of remembering one of the icons of football development in The Gambia.
The late Mr. Sey was a former Gambia Football Association President, ex-Foreign Affairs Minister of The Gambia, and retired FIFA referee. He has been hailed as a baron for the growth and development of football in The Gambia.
As winners, Real de Banjul were awarded with goal medals, a giant trophy and a cash prize of D150, 000, while Marimoo were also awarded silver medals and a consolation prize of D100, 000.
