‘Rambo’ Jatta, the deputy party leader of the opposition for Alliance for
Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), has taken a bite on Gambian
journalists, saying they are the biggest enemy of the APRC today.
Mr. Jatta argued that Gambian journalists
should remember past as well as present circumstances.
He
was addressing APRC militants at Brikama on Saturday.
Rambo
further expressed disappointment with the Gambian journalists, noting that
there are things happening in the country which journalists are not
investigating. He however, did not mention anything specific that he feels
should be investigated by journalists.
“I
am very disappointed with the Gambian journalists because there are lot of
things happening in the country which worth investigation but journalists are not
paying attention to that,” he said.
Rambo,
who made no mention of the precarious circumstances in which journalists
operated during the dictatorial days of Yahya Jammeh, further argued that they
will sometimes call on journalists to give them information but they would
refuse to investigate them.
According
to him, he is of the view that the President Barrow’s claim that some
journalists asked him for money for them to write things about him is true.
“If
we are calling them to give them information and they are sitting on that
information, then I am beginning to believe Barrow’s claims that some
journalists ask him for money to write good things about him,” Rambo said.
