Ramadan and Eidul Fitr message

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Allah the Almighty has created mankind for a special purpose which, according to the Holy Qur’an, is worship. The reality of worship is total devotion and obedience to the commandments of Allah the Almighty. The result of such worship is the earning of the love and pleasure of Allah Almighty. To enable mankind achieve that objective, Allah the Almighty has made certain prescriptions and one of those fundamental prescriptions is the fasting of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The Holy month of Ramadan is full of blessings; it was in this month that Holy Qur’an, the perfect code of life and the Last Shari’ah, was revealed. Its revelation started on the Lailatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, a night that has been described by the Holy Qur’an as better than a thousand months. The first ten days of Ramadan have been described as days of mercy, the second as forgiveness and the third as salvation. Ramadan, therefore, provides the principles on which human survival is embedded both physically and spiritually. Allah the Almighty is the Most Merciful; His mercy provides facilities for every human being without any effort on their parts and a special mercy is provided for those who devote themselves to Him especially in the Holy month of Ramadan. Maghfirah, also translated as forgiveness, effaces sins, provides strength against sinfulness, and elevates the moral and spiritual status of mankind. Salvation is the state where one becomes a beloved of Allah the Almighty; he loves Allah the Almighty completely and his soul finds peace in His protection. Allah Almighty also loves him dearly and puts him under His special grace, love and mercy. The Ramadan therefore is a great institution that strengthens mankind to attain the ultimate objective of their existence.

The Holy month of Ramadan has a special connection to individual, national and international peace. One way through which Ramadan establishes peace is the teaching that when one is observing the fast and he is provoked by someone, his response should be “I am fasting”. This is an indication that a fasting individual should be peaceful. This shows how peaceful Islam is. Islam is indeed the religion of peace, tolerance, reconciliation and understanding. If the commandments of the Holy Qur’an and the noble teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saw) are sincerely followed, the world shall be as peaceful as it is supposed to be during and beyond the month of Ramadan.

Another important objective of fasting is the attainment of true Tauheed (the pure belief in the Unity of Allah Almighty). Global peace shall remain a mirage without Tauheed. The Unity of Allah Almighty should always remind us that we must also remain united as human beings, regardless of religious, racial, tribal or political affiliation. Allah the Almighty loves those who promote peace and unity and dislikes those who create disorder and disunity on earth.

During the Holy month of Ramadan, we were mostly engaged in acts of righteousness, goodness and service to humanity in order to earn the pleasure of Allah the Almighty. As we celebrate the end of the Holy month with the Eidul Fitr, we must always remember that the acts of piety must be enduring; the spirit of Ramadan must continue to reflect in our thoughts, words and actions throughout the year. It is only then that the objective shall be attained.

Service to humanity is a moral responsibility and Islam has put much emphasis on it. Love for Allah the Almighty is incomplete without love for humanity and dedication to their service. Let us always remember that service to the poor and the needy is a duty, not a favour on them. A society that does not fulfill its duties to the poor and needy, does not enjoy the peace it deserves. The success and peace of a society is closely related to the fulfillment of the rights of the poor, the needy and orphan. We must also not forget to assist and serve our neighbors.

As we celebrate the Eidul Fitr, I convey to you the warmest Salaam and prayers of Holiness, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah Almighty continue to strengthen his hands), the Supreme and Spiritual Leader of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at. He is always praying for the peace, prosperity, progress and tranquility of our beloved country The Gambia. He is saying, “Eid Mubarak” to you all. On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at The Gambia, I convey to you warmest Eid Mubarak.

May Allah the Almighty strengthen us to continue living by the spirit of Ramadan throughout our lives. May He shower His choicest mercy, forgiveness and salvation upon all of us. May He abundantly reward our fasting. May He continue to bestow blessings, peace, progress, prosperity, stability, tolerance and love on our dear and beloved motherland, The Gambia. Ameen.

O Allah! Shower Your infinite blessings, peace and mercy upon the Universal Teacher, Seal of the Prophets, best of mankind, Muhammad Mustafa (saw). Ameen.

Yours sincerely,
