The Embassy of the State of Qatar in The Gambia on Thursday evening hosted a dinner reception in honour of Qatar National Day at a ceremony held at the ambassador’s residence in Bijilo.

The Qatari’s National Day is an opportunity for citizens to recognise and celebrate the tremendous efforts made by the country’s forefathers who endured severe hardships and paid a dear price for the unity of the nation.

Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Kaabi, the ambassador of the State of Qatar to The Gambia, paid glowing tribute to all those who played a part in the country’s march to unity.

“This national occasion ensures our identity and history which embodies the ideals and visionary aspirations that the State of Qatar was founded on” he said.

The National Day, he said, is an occasion dearest to them and for that he conveyed deepest affection and gratitude to the loyal people of Qatar for their show of cooperation, solidarity, commitment and sincerity to their wise leadership.

“Over the past 6 months, the Qatari government has completed a number of infrastructure projects including highways and major roads as well as the opening of Hamad Sea Port, which will change the trade map in the whole region. In addition, a number of projects have been launched in agriculture, food industry, fish, dairy, poultry, medicine, construction and petrochemicals and the development of tourism sector open to 80 new countries to increase the number of tourists”, he stated.

For his part, Aboubacarr Tambedou, attorney general and minister of Justice on behalf of the minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed warmest greetings and felicitation of President Barrow to the ambassador, embassy staff as well as to the entire Qatari community in The Gambia.

Minister Tambedou on behalf of the government and people of The Gambia extended sincere prayers for continued peace and prosperity of the government and people of Qatar.

“It is our hope that the celebration of the 138th anniversary of the unification of the State of Qatar will create the impetus to strengthen the unity and solidarity of the people of your great country”.

The Gambia, he went on, acknowledged with great pride, the unwavering support and benevolence of the government of the State of Qatar towards the new government of The Gambia.

Justice minister assured that the government will continue to count on this support as it strives to achieve its development objective to transform the New Gambia to a model economic and social development, among small states.

This gesture of friendship, solidarity and assistance in times of need, he observes, comes as no surprise given the dedication of the government of Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, to uphold the humanitarian values of the founding father, His Highness Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al-Thani.
