Peoples’ Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS)
aspiring candidate for Kanifing Municipal Council mayor seat in the May Mayoral
election has called on the Kanifing Municipality electorates to make a wise
decision in electing their Mayor, saying promises that some candidates give
will never be fulfilled without resources.
At a press conference at the PDOIS office at Churchills Town last week, Adama Bah said it is sad what he saw in the country, saying candidates must first know the peoples’ problems and living conditions to provide resources to remedy the problems. “Sometimes when you are in some places, you think it is not people living there. Anyone who travels outside The Gambia will see the difference between what Gambian people call development and what is real development.”
Mr. Bah said it is sad to hear some candidates saying new Gambia, saying there is still Old Gambia because politicians are giving promises and none of them is giving strategies on how and where to get the resources from. “Before telling people I will do this or that, you must be first able to mobilise resources. Tax will never make a country sustainable. It is tax that brought us here and it is tax that is taking our authorities travel to abroad every day and we are still confortable living the way we are,” he said.
He reiterated that his experience in the establishment and promotion of small business is a valuable asset in his tool kit that is needed to help boost the growth of business especially small business in the municipality. “In 2000, I helped to establish ASSET, an organization that promotes and protects small scale business players in the tourism industry.
