Police officer charged with theft

Tayib Faal, criminal intelligence officer, was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on two counts of abuse of office and stealing, charges he denied.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the accused person, Tayib Faal, some time in 2010 and 2011 at Serrekunda in the Kanifing Municipality, being an employee of the Gambia Police Force as a criminal Intelligence officer, abused the authority of his office by taking away a fourteen-passenger van, with registration number BJL 6914F, which was entrusted to his office, the property of one Ousman Camara of Busura village, and thereby committed an offence.

Tayib Faal was also accused, in the same year and at the same place, of stealing a fourteen-passenger van with registration number BJL 6914F which was entrusted to his office, the property of one Ousman Camara of Busura village, and thereby committed an offence.

He was granted court bail of D500,000 with two Gambian sureties who must swear to an affidavit of means, and deposit their ID cards.

The sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned to 9 July 2013, for hearing.
