Point reporter off to Germany

Mahamadou Camara, a reporter with the Point Newspaper recently left Banjul for Heidelberg, Germany to participate and cover a weeklong forum, dubbed “The 5th Heidelberg Laureate Forum.”

Mr Camara, who is also a first-year Journalism student of the School of Journalism and Digital Media at the University of the Gambia would join other colleague-journalists from all over the world in the historic city of Heidelberg for the annual weeklong event.

The forum, organised by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF),a non-profit foundation, was established in 2013 and funded by the German Foundation, Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS).

It was aimed at promoting advancement of Computer Science and Mathematics.

The event will bring together Nobel Laureates of Computer Science and Mathematics and recipients of Fields Medal, A.M Turing Award, The Abel Prize and ACM Prize, young researchers, journalists and bloggers, scientific institutions, guests and staff members of the HLFF and the Klaus Tschira Foundation.

According to Mr Camara, the forum would provide a platform to exchange views and ideas pertaining to the development of Computer Science and Mathematics in the world.

“It will also avail us the opportunity to network with international participants and colleague-journalists from all over the world,” Mr Camara pointed out.

He expressed profound gratitude to the entire members of staff, management and colleagues of the Point Newspaper for the moral support and cordial working relationship.

“I am very grateful to Mr Pap Saine and Mr Philip,” he noted.

Mr Camara also used the opportunity to thank all his colleague-students, as well as his lecturers and staff members of the University of The Gambia.

The weeklong event will feature workshops, city tours, Math Exhibitions, boat trips, as well as press conferences.
