Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama will
take charge of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers tie between Bafana
Bafana of South Africa and the Super Eagles of Nigeria set for November at the
FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
The 39-year-old is regarded as the continent’s best referee and was among the few Africans selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and has officiated group C fixture between Peru and Denmark.
He will be assisted by compatriot Sualyman Sooseh, Omar Darboe and Omar Sallah for the continent’s biggest football qualifiers between the two heavy-weights
Gassama has also officiated the 2018 World Cup qualifiers between Nigeria and Algeria in which the Super Eagles thrashed the Desert Foxes 3-1 in Uyo.
Nigeria is currently leading Group E of the qualifiers with 9 points after four matches and one point ahead of South Africa, who snatched 8 points in four group matches.
