and Africa’s best referee Bakary Papa Gassama is set to officiate the CAF
Champions League match between Algerian side, Entente Sportive de Sétif and
Moroccan club, Difaâ Hassani d’el-Jadida on Tuesday evening.
Africa’s top club competition returns to action after taking a break with the third round of group stage matches set to be underway tonight.
Sétif, who have been African champions twice, have lost both their games so far in the group as they take on visiting Difaâ El Jadida at the Stade du 8 Mai 1945.
Papa, who will be looking to throw the 2018 FIFA World Cup disappointment behind him where he refereed only one match, will be assisted by compatriots Sulayman Sosseh, 39, and Omar Darboe, 33.
Since starting in 2003, Gassama has risen from The Gambian league to take charge of games at the highest level. After becoming FIFA-listed in 2007, his first major tournament was the 2012 London Olympics, where he was fourth official in the gold medal match between Brazil and Mexico.
Papa took charge of the 2015 final. He is also the first non-Asian referee to ever officiate in the Qatari league.
