Gambia and Africa best referee Bakary Papa Gassama said he has dedicated his Afcon medal to his later mother, Aja Isatou Badjan.

Gassama made the revelation during an interview at the end of the 32nd edition of the total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the Desert Foxes of Algeria were crowned champions after defeating the Teranga Lions of Senegal by 1-0.

Africa’s best referee who was in the VAR room during the final said his Afcon match medal is for his late mother who passed away in July, just few days before the start of the Afcon tournament. “The award is dedicated to my late mother. She supported me throughout my career and I cannot forget the prayers she offered to me for all my success in football,” he said.

Papa, who officiated two matches at the tournament in Cairo, thanked the GFF, stakeholders and the general public for the support and prayers.
