Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Mayoral candidate Pa Njie Girigara last Monday donated set of football jerseys to Nguma and Shop Bi football clubs and trophy.

The donation was made to support the final of the old hands football tournament he sponsored at the Serrekunda Lower Basic School.

Pa Njie said at the presentation ceremony that sports should be a continuous activity in one’s life to keep people healthy. He called on Gambians to start developing the habit of exercising for the benefit of their health.

According to him taxpayers will see the outcome of paying their taxes when they elect him mayor, saying he will invest it in sports, health, markets, roads and environmental sanitation among others.

M.C. Cham Jr. disclosed that prior to Mr. Njie’s declaration of his candidature to run for the mayoral office, he had been supporting sports and Gambia’s development in general. He added that there are lots of talented Gambians in sports who need support.

According to Cham, the KMC mayoral aspirant’s gesture is his personal way of contributing towards national development. “Mr. Njie is out to build a foundation for young people. Anyone who stands behind Mr. Njie is supporting the municipality.”

Speaking on behalf of the organising committee and the beneficiary teams, Bai Ndongo Drammeh said to develop a nation, youth and women must be first empowered just as Mr. Njie is doing.
