striker Omar Nyassi’s 49th minute astonishing strike inspired The Pub FC to
lift the trophy in the Gunjur knock-out tournament.
The Sifoe-based club beat Blaness FC 1-0 in a well-attended final game played at the Gunjur Nyamina Football field on Saturday. Both sides made a sloppy start to the game and created few goal-scoring opportunities ending the first half barren.
When the second half resumed, The Pub dominated the game and created some goal scoring opportunities leading to their opening of scores through prolific striker Omar Nyassi in the 49th minute of the game after capitalising on Blaness FC’s defensive blunder to fire home the opener, which eventually proved to be the winner for the Sifoe-based football club.
Blaness FC reacted quickly for an equaliser and could have leveled the scores through striker Modou Lamin Manneh mid-way into the second half but his shot was cleared off the line by The Pub FC defence.
As champions, The Pub FC went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D9, 000 while Blaness FC received D6, 000 as runners-up.
