Assembly Member of Old Yundum, Abdoulie Ceesay on Tuesday awarded nine most
outstanding students of Wellingara Lower Basic School with educational
materials, certificates and cash in recognition of their achievements during
their last academic examinations.
Chairman of the school management committee Kebba Fatty expressed gratitude to NAM Ceesay for always considering the school, calling on other parliamentarians to emulate him in promoting the teaching and learning in the country. “This is a motivation to the school children to do more. We hope that this gesture would go a long way in encouraging students to do more in the coming academic year.”
The school headmistress Boidoh Jallow-Baldeh with delight expressed gratitude to the Old Yundum lawmaker for the gesture. “Our main problem currently is sanitation and unavailability of clean and safe drinking water.”
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ceesay said helping students is part of his dream and that he has realized that a lot of students are excelling in their academic pursuit, who needs be motivated to do more.
Ceesay noted that he has been helping the school and the communities not because of personal interest, but he believes that it is the responsibility of all to give back to their communities.
He urged the beneficiaries and all other students to do more, promising that the gesture is just the beginning.
He equally challenged parents to give space to their children to enable them study hard at home for them to perform well in examinations.
Lasana Kanteh, the community’s development committee chairman hailed the school teachers and students for their outstanding achievement. He urged parents to encourage their children to study at home.
