public relations officer of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS has
disclosed that financial constraint is one of the challenges preventing the
Scheme from absorbing more youth to acquire skills training.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Point, Adama Beyai said the Scheme is facing series of challenges including finance and mobility, saying there are lot of youth the Scheme could have accommodated, but that is not possible due to financial constraint.
NYSS, he pointed out, is mandated by government to look into the affairs of young people in building their capacity and skills for development. “We should get more young people on board to send them to various institutions to learn skills and monitor them every month and that need resources. We have a lot of young people who have completed their training and as at now, we have about 2000 to 3000 young people who have passed through the scheme.”
Mr. Beyai said they currently have about 150 young people who are in the field going through various skills training.
