Network of Financial and Tax Reporters (NFTR) – The Gambia Charter on Wednesday
met the president of the Gambia Press Union to brief him on NFTR’s objectives
and also their upcoming launching scheduled for Saturday 3rd August, 2019 at the
National Nutrition Agency’s (NaNa) conference, Kanifing.
The president of NFTR, Abdoulie Nyockeh, explained the idea behind forming the network, saying it all came after he attended a media training organised by the African Tax Administration Forum Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.
He said that the said media engagement identified ways through which tax authorities can work with the media and make citizens more active in terms of holding states accountable.
He pointed out that the vision of the network is to report on financial and taxation in order to create awareness and ensure voluntary tax compliance and efficient tax administration in The Gambia.
Sheriff Bojang Jnr., the GPU president, welcomed the initiative, saying The Gambia is tax based economy.
He acknowledged that this is the first time “we are having such a network on financial and taxation issues in the country.”
Bojang assured the network of his personal support, while challenging them to ensure loyalty in whatever they are doing to move the network forward.
