International University West Africa (AIUWA) Thursday oriented new student
intakes at its Kanifing campus.
AIUWA is a registered and approved institution of higher education by Gambia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, providing effective and World-Class education to qualified and motivated students directly after high school.
Vice chancellor Dr. Makie Taal said AIUWA put students at the center of everything it does, saying students’ experience and success is of key to every staff.
He said the University was founded by Dinesh Shukla, an American who first came to The Gambia some 10 years ago with the sole intention to bring quality and affordable US education to Africans and beyond.
Dr. Taal reminded the new students that the story of life is divided into chapters and the newest chapter in their lives has just begun which, he said is a bit different from their previous one. “You have the opportunity to determine the direction, the plot and the tempo of your story.”
He told them that they will now be expected to be more self-reliant since they are responsible for what they do, for ensuring that they do the work that will be required of them. “Make sure you attend your lectures, labs and seminars and do their assignments and read the materials advised by your lecturers and tutors.”
Prabodh Shukla, registrar of the University and head of administration assured the new students that they will receive the best education at the university, encouraging them to maintain a strong passion for what they do.
Sankung Jobarteh, head of department of pharmacy encourage the new students to actively participate in all the extra-curricular activities in the University during the course of their study.
Benjamin Ozirigbo, college of computer, management and information technology also inspired the new students to ensure making the best use of their course and the lectures to enable them graduate with good results.
