New IEC Chair assumes office, as Carayol retires

Alieu Momar Njai, who has just been appointed as the new Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), has assumed duties with effect from Monday 11 April 2016.

“Mr Njai replaces Alhaji Mustapha L. Carayol, who has gone on retirement with effect from 7 April 2016,” a press release signed and sent to this paper yesterday stated.

Sare Ngai Ward By-Election

Under the charge of Alieu Momar Njai, the IEC will conduct a by-election to fill the vacant seat of Councillor for Sare Ngai Ward in the Basse Area Council on Thursday 28 April 2016.

“Nomination of Candidates will be held on Thursday 14 April 2016 at the IEC Regional Office in Basse from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m.,” the IEC release stated, adding that prospective candidates should call “the Regional office in Basse on 3534604 or 3534233 in order to arrange the schedule of receipt of their nomination papers”.
