New Gambia to transform agriculture sectors

The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Omar Jallow, has said that the new Government would transform the agriculture sector that would create facilities and opportunities for Gambian youths.

 The agriculture minister made the remark recently while delivering a statement on the World Food Day celebration held at Farafenni in the North Bank Region.

“We have to change the lives of vulnerable Gambian youths to overcome the issues of migration. ¬¬We must invest in food security and rural development,” he said.

He said the new Government would put in strategies and programs to transform and revive the cooperative groups while he encouraged all and sundry to diversify the agricultural sector, especially the livestock and horticulture sectors.

The minister added that young people have a lot of ideas and those ideas should be put into action, and thanked the FAO country representative for bringing ideas and proposals that are geared towards solving the problem of the rural farmers.

The minister concluded that livestock project would be initiated to support rural farmers with a view to reducing the burden of importing rams from other countries.
