Nyofelleh needed a win against Jabas FC to increase their dreams of reaching the round of sixteen after slipping to Young Santos FC in their opening game.
Striker Nelson Mendy’s last minute goal was all but enough to secure Nyofelleh their first win in the town’s annual intermediate biggest football jamboree after a deadlock in the first half.
League champions Young Santos FC thumped debutants Njies FC 2-0 in the other group A game played on same day to maintain their hundred percent record in the Nawettan.
New Town FC defeated Jujuba FC 2-1 on Sunday to also maintain their hundred percent record in group B after their slender 1-0 victory over Kajabang FC in their opening group match.
Kajabang FC beat Young Blaness FC 1-0 to land their first win in group B after losing to New Town FC on the same score line in their opening group game. Kajabang FC now needs to beat Jujuba FC with as many goals in their group match in order to nurse hopes of qualifying for the round of sixteen.
The defeat was Young Blaness FC’s second defeat in the annual championship after slipping to Jujuba FC 5-0 in their opening group match.
Top Spot FC drew goalless with Young Sunderland FC in their opening group H fixture played on Friday.
