National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), through Maternal and Child Nutrition Health
Result project (MCNHRP) has presented six brand new vehicles to the Ministry of
Health and Social Welfare, with one going to the aid coordination unit under
the Ministry of Finance an Economic Affairs.
The vehicles were meant for their regional directorates in the country.
Speaking at the occasion held at NaNA office, Pa Modou Phaal, the Executive Director of NaNA, who doubles as the project coordinator of MCNHRP, described the move as a laudable initiative geared towards strengthening health system of the country.
He said that the project is not working in isolation, but out to strengthen what the Ministry of Health is doing.
Mr Phaal cautioned that they should put the vehicles into good use to avoid delay in the implementation of the project.
For her part, Madam Nancy Njie, permanent secretary at the Office of the Vice-President buttressed that the importance attached to the event could not be over-emphasised as the vehicle are here to strengthen the health sector.
She said they need some professionalism in handling the vehicle to be able to last long and called for the need of closely monitoring the vehicle at the regional level.
The permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Cherno Omar, spoke extensively about the importance attached to the vehicle, and thanked the management of NaNA for taking up the bold initiative, geared towards boosting the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
He advised the regional directors to take ownership of the vehicles, as there would be effective monitoring at the regional level.
Mr. Karama, a beneficiary from the regional directorate, thanked NaNA and the sponsors for providing the vehicle to the regional health directorate.
