his recent visit to the Kingdom of Spain, Upper River Region’s Jimara District
National Assembly Member Alhagie H Sowe met with the Jimara community there
where he appealed to them to maintain a stronger unity and collaboration in the
interest of the district.
He also called on Gambians in Spain to nature the spirit of unity among themselves and to be regularly discussing The Gambia to contribute to the country’s development.
“Our political affiliation should not divide us as we are all Gambians. The development of the country should remain our top aspirations. My objectives are to ensure that the district, the region and the entire country enjoy rapid socio-economic advancement,” he said.
This is the first time a Jimara legislator is meeting the district’s community in Spain. Members of other URR communities, Lower and Central River Regions also attended the five hour long meeting. It availed them the opportunity to highlight and discuss some of their constraints with their parliamentarian.
“I have many plans for Jimara so I will need your unflinching support in ensuring that some of the difficulties that our communities are encountering particularly in terms of water shortage and feeder roads among others become history in Jimara and URR in generally.”
Commenting on some of the challenges raised particularly the need for diaspora Gambians to vote outside of the country, Mr. Sowe assured that he would deliver the message to relevant authorities.
Vice President of The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Diaspora Association Haji Ceesay thanked Mr. Sowe for meeting them; saying such fora will go a long way in strengthening the already existing relationship among Gambians in Spain.
Mr. Ceesay added the non-issuance of passports and Diaspora Gambians not voting among others are some of the issues affecting them. He assured Mr. Sowe of their continued support to enable him achieve his objectives.
