Assembly select-committee on local government Tuesday rejected Banjul City
Council (BBC) 2015-2016 activity report for failure to submit the correct
Chairperson of the committee Ya Kumba Jaiteh said this is the second time the city council board members are presenting incomplete report before the local government select-committee.
The committee ordered that if BCC fail to submit their correct activity report in twelve days from the day of rejection, they will not take it lightly because the city council is a collector of taxes paid by people.
She said the National Audit Office noticed that the financial report is incomplete based on three facts that made it below what is required of a standard financial report.
She reminded Council officials that as a committee, they want to see a standard activity report failure of which would be considered as obstruction to their responsibility as National Assembly committee in performing their duties.
“We are now giving you the last warning to submit your activity report.”
The committee has now given them a second chance to go back and prepare correct activity reports of 2015, 2016 and 2017 in 12 days
The Council’s financial director Muhammed Cham said they have not been preparing financial activity report over the years due to fact that financial standard was not available.
“We will now draft a financial report with detailed transactions, balance sheet and incorporate income statements.”
