Gambian winger Mustapha Carayol has been ruled out of action for six weeks due
to a hip injury.
Carayol will likely miss The Gambia’s clash with Benin in the continent’s biggest football carnival qualifiers on 17 November in Banjul.
The 30-year-old missed The Gambia’s 1-0 defeat to Togo in the return leg of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on October 16 after suffering a knock in the first leg in Lomé.
According to Gambia Sports, Carayol returned to club action with Apollon Limassol and was featured in the club’s 2-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League following their 1-1 draw at Doxa Katokopias league.
The Statement on Apollon’s official website stated that the Gambian winger has hip problem aggravated, requiring him to be out of action until mid-December.
The news comes as a blow for Coach Tom Saintfiet who is preparing for the country’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin on 17 November in Banjul.
