football club has been crowned champions of Basse unity tournament with
football enthusiasts describing it as one of the most successful and well
organized final in the populous town.
The team defeated Halem football club in the final which was played on Saturday at the metropolitan town football field.
The eight-team knock-out tournament was organized and sponsored by the Friends of Basse (FOB), a local organization established by Basse natives at home and in the Diaspora to support the people of the region in key development areas and to foster the spirit of unity and understanding among the people of the region. The game ended in a post-match penalty shootout with MSK FC beating Halem 6-5.
MSK FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D5, 000 while Halem FC received a cash prize of D4, 000. The rest of the participating teams were each given D500.
The region’s deputy Governor Cherno Sey thanked the organizers of the tournament, saying it had gone a long way in developing important areas in the region.
Baba Krubally who spoke on behalf of the Friends of Basse called on the people of Basse to always close their ranks in the interest of development.
