Barry, a mother of three children who was apparently healthy until last
November when she started developing weakness, anorexia, vomiting, body
swelling and low urine output is appealing for financial aid to help her
undergo kidney transplant in Turkey.
A medical report issued to the 32-year-old a native of Basse from Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, stated that diagnosis was done and she started hemodialysis treatment on 7 December 2018 through acute dialysis catheter inserted on the right jugular vein.
The country’s main referral hospital said erythropoietin and iron injection are not available at the hospital, and it does not also have vascular surgeon which is why it is not possible to carry out an AVF. “We do not have renal transplant in our country. Therefore, we send her to another center for further management because the family requested to go to another country for overseas treatment,” the medical report stated.
Mariatou’s brother Momodou Barry told our reporter that the total package price for his sister’s overseas treatment is 20, 000 United States dollar, about 1 million Gambian dalasis, which they cannot afford. “We are therefore appealing for support from anyone who can help.”
