Mother of Gambia’s exiled ex-president dies

Gambia’s exiled former President Yahya Jammeh’s mother has died after a brief illness. The late Aja Asombi Bojang, who went into exile with the former Gambian leader, after he lost the December 2016 presidential election, was reported to have died on Friday 27th July at a hospital in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The body of the deceased is expected to return to The Gambia for proper burial.

According to State House official page, The Gambian President Adama Barrow has expressed condolence to the deceased family. 

Following news of the demise of Aja Fatou Asombi Bojang, His Excellency Adama Barrow on behalf of the people of the Republic of The Gambia, the first family and on his own behalf expressed his condolences to the former Head of State and his family. The president of the Republic prays for Allah to grant her eternal peace.

On Saturday, the executive of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) convened a Quranic recitation for the deceased at the compound of the interim leader of the party, Fabakary Tombong Jatta in Tallinding.
