Minister Sillah reassures gov’t commitment to repeal draconian media laws

The minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure has said that as a government they see media as partners in development, assuring that they will continue to work with partners to repeal all draconian media laws from our statue books.

Ebrima Sillah while speaking with RSF, acknowledged that the government of The Gambia has welcomed news from International Press Freedom Organisation Reporters Without Borders (RSF) that favourably ranked it for its commitment to improve media freedoms.

“As a government we see the media as partners in development and we will continue to work with The Gambia Press Union and its international partners to improve the conditions of journalists as well as repeal all draconian media laws from our statue books. “

“Currently the ministries of Justice and Information are working together to present before the National Assembly the Media Amendment Bill and The Gambia Information Service Bill for enactment. All these are meant to empower the media to perform its functions effectively.”
