of the Military Police of The Gambia Armed Force (GAF) have arrested one Lance
Corporal Edrisa Babou, a native of Mbollet-Ba in Lower Niumi District of the
North Bank Region (NBR), according to GAF.
Lance Corporal Edrisa Babou, was dismissed from the GAF in September 2014, when he was alleged to be involved in a cattle theft at the Banjulinding farm.
The public relations officer (PRO) of the GAF Major Lamin K. Sanyang has confirmed the development to our reporter. He said the former Intake 28 soldier was arrested upon information they received from Amdalai border post of his return.
The former soldier, he said, was arrested since 2014. “I just want to make it clear that he is not link in the activities of the alleged ‘jungulers’. His return also does not pose any security threat,” he added.
PRO Sanyang explained that according to the information they obtained indicated that L.C. Babou four days after his dismissal from the GAF, decided to leave The Gambia in an attempt to go to through ‘back-way’ to Europe.
“Unfortunately, he could not make it to Europe, so he decided to return in 2015, and went to Senegal where he was working for a security company. Sanyang added that Babou, took permission from where he was working in Senegal to come back in the country and visit his daughter,” he noted, adding that he has been interrogated and released.
