Foundation has announced applications for its coveted Merck More Than a Mother
Recognition Awards for 2018. The Foundation says applications are available for
media professionals to showcase their work to raise awareness about infertility
prevention and breaking infertility stigma in Africa.
The Foundation recently held a gathering where it announced winners of the 2017 Merck More Than a Mother Recognition Award in Kenya capital, Nairobi. Over 200 journalists from 17 African countries attended the ceremony.
The awards were introduced last year to recognize outstanding health journalists and to recognize individual professional journalists who produced accurate, informative, and compelling stories about infertile women or couples in Africa.
“I strongly believe in the critical role media plays to sensitize communities. Therefore, we have created these media awards with the aim to recognize outstanding journalistic coverage that enhances public engagement and understanding of infertility, breaking its stigma and emphasizing the need to change the social perception of it in African communities,” chief executive officer of Merck Foundation and President of Merck More Than a Mother Dr. Rasha Kelej said.
He said they have also started two relevant hashtags #MenToocansufferinfertilitynotwomenonly, and #NoForInfertilityStigma, to appeal to all media partners to start this movement across their platforms.
The Foundation announced it would be awarding USD3000 for the winner of multimedia category, USD 1000 for print media, USD 1000 for online media and USD 1000 for radio category.
Journalists from print, online; radio and multimedia platforms are encouraged to apply for the awards before 31st March 2019 via email@example.com.
