Men arraigned for alleged fraud

Abdou Karim Jallow and Basiru Mballow were recently arraigned before Magistrate Kijera of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, obtaining money by false pretence and obtaining goods by false pretence.

Meanwhile, the 1st accused pleaded guilty on count one and pleaded not guilty on counts two and three, while the 2nd accused denied all the charges.

They were granted court bail of D100,000 each with two Gambian sureties, who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit their ID cards.

The case was adjourned till 23 September 2015.

The charge sheet in count one stated that the accused persons, on  29 August 2015 around SOS High School in the Kanifing Municipality, jointly conspired to commit a misdemeanor by inducing one Oley Joof to deliver to them money and valuable items.

Count two stated that they, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, induced the said Oley Joof to deliver D74,000 under the pretext that they had seen spiritual sickness in her, which treatment demanded a deposit of money, which was in fact false.

Count three read that by false pretence and with intent to defraud, they induced the said Oley Joof to deliver a mobile phone of mark HTC valued at D500, under the pretext that they had spiritually seen sickness in her which treatment demanded the mobile phone be delivered to them, which was in fact false.
