Members of GFF seek clarification on appointment of players’ agent as NC chairman

Aug 1, 2014, 10:02 AM

Members of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) have said that they would appreciate it if FIFA could kindly shed further light on the appointment of Hon. Alhagi Sillah who is a players’ agent as chairman of the normalisation committee and act accordingly for redress.

In an e-mail sent to the Secretary General of FIFA and copied to Pointsports, members of the GFF said Hon. Alhagi Sillah is among the current list of licensed player agents for The Gambia as stated in Players’ Agents/Gambia-FIFA.com.

They said they have also observed that his appointment contradicts Article 6 paragraph 2 and 3 of the FIFA Players’ Agent Regulations 2008 which states that “An applicant may not under any circumstances, hold position as an official, employee, etc at FIFA, a confederation, an association, a league, a club or any organisation, connected with such organisation and entities”.

“Such prerequisites for applying for a license must be satisfied at all times throughout the players’ agent entire career (cf art. 15)”, the letter further quoted.

The following is the full text of the letter also copied to the Secretary General of CAF, the Permanent Secretary of MoYS, the Executive Director of NSC, the Secretary General of GFF, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of NIA:

“We refer to your recent correspondences to GFF and its stakeholders on GFF nornalisation process, latest being your letter dated 24th July 2014, we the concerned stakeholders of GFF keenly noted as follows:

1.That in accordance with FIFA Emergency Committee’s decision that empowered the FIFA administration with the faculty of nominating a Normalisation Committee and the members of this Normalisation Committee comprise:- Mr Alagie Sillah as Chairman, Mr Ba Jabbie- member, Mrs Haddy Sillah Njie- member, Mr Badara Sanneh- member and Esq. Regenju N. Vitalise- member;

2.That the normalisation is tasked to organise election of a new board by 15th September 2014 at latest and to run the daily business of the GFF in the meantime;

3.That the Normalisation Committee will act as the electoral committee in charge of the aforementioned election and whose decision will be final and binding;

4.That a new electoral process is about to start and it will be open to whoever complies with the statutory (i.e. GFF’s Constitutional) requirements;

5.That you trust the Normalisation Committee will succeed in achieving the objectives set by FIFA and that it will count on the support of all the GFF stakeholders.

In light of the above, we have observed that the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, Hon. Alagie Sillah, is among the current list of licensed player agents for Gambia as stated in Players’ Agents / Gambia – FIFA.com. We have also observed that this appointment, contradicts Article 6 paragraph 2 and 3 of the FIFA Players’ Agent Regulation 2008 which state,

“Article 6: - Prerequisites for Application

(2) An application may not under any circumstances, hold position as an official, employee, etc at FIFA, a confederation, an association, a league, a club or any organisation, connected with such organisation and entities.

(3) Such prerequisites for applying for a license must be satisfied at all times throughout the players’ agent entire career (c f art. 15)”.

We would appreciate if you could kindly shed further light on this matter and act accordingly for redress.

Whilst we await so, on the above, we trust that the Normalisation Committee will limit itself to the task and terms given by FIFA as highlighted above.

As you count on the support of all GFF stakeholders which we wish to assure you and confirm our full cooperation and commitment to the new electoral process launched by FIFA, in the same vein, it is our ardent hope and trust that the Normalisation Committee will honour FIFA’s stance on the task given to them in order to ensure a smooth, fair and transparent process in electing new GFF Board by 15th September 2014 at latest.
