Mass the 2019 Fass Omar Saho Nawettan title. They beat Kayel Untied in a keenly
and well-contested encounter played at Fass Omar Saho football field.
The tournament was sponsored by Baboucarr Njie, a native of Fass Omar Saho with a package of D20, 000 and organised by Fass Omar Saho youth and sport development.
The final was graced by high profile dignitaries as well as hundreds of football fans within Lower and Upper Niumi Districts.
As winners, Medina Serign Mass went home with a cash prize of D10, 000, a set of Jersey and a giant trophy and Runners-up Kayel United pocketed home a consolation prize of D6, 000 and a trophy.
Certificates were awarded to the best goalkeeper, best player, leading goal scorer, best young team, best referee, most discipline coach as well as other deserving individuals and associations.
Speaking shortly before kick-off, the sponsor Baboucarr Njie said he sponsored the tournament to develop grass roots football as it is the only way the country can succeed in football.
Mr. Njie added that he also aimed to support footballers not to only benefit the nation by playing for the country but to also benefit themselves financially by becoming professionals and playing for big clubs. “Football is no longer just for pleasure but business.
Mr. Njie also said that football is meant to bring unity and friendship which he also want to promote.
Mamud Njie, head coach of Medina Serign Mass said both teams knew each other but he was happy that his side emerged victorious at the end of the game. He commended and thanked organisers for a job well done.
Katim Gaye, head coach of Kayel United expressed delight with his team’s performance despite losing the final. He described the final as an unlucky day for them, saying it’s always difficult for his side to equalize when they concede an early goal.
