Man arrested for killing girlfriend’s brother

Police in Basse has arrested Sulayman Camara, 20, a native of Numuyel village in the Jimara District of the Upper River Region who allegedly killed his girlfriend’s brother on August 5, 2014 after years of absconding, The Point can authoritatively report.

The suspect is currently on detention at the Basse Police Station as investigation into the matter continues. The tragedy occurred at the village of Numuyel after the young man allegedly hit his girlfriend’s a brother with a cement brick on the head, leading to his death on the spot.

A source that spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity said the suspect was residing in Mauritania. “He manages to escape arrest after committing the murder in Jimara and decided to leave the country to Mauritania.”

Our source further added that police in URR arrested the suspect immediately he returned from Mauritania where he had been living for the past five years.

It could be recalled that the incident occurred in Numuyel village in 2014 after the accused, Sulayman Camara, had a bitter argument with his girlfriend’s younger brother, the late Muhammed Camara, 18, over the alleged beating of the latter’s sister. They explained that the accused allegedly beat the victim’s sister (the girlfriend) after he suspected her of cheating, leading to her being admitted at the Gambissara Health Centre for medical examination and treatment.
