Man Arraigned for Obtaining Money by False Pretence

Ismaila Leigh, a 38 year old Gambian, was on Monday 9th March 2009 arraigned before the Brikama Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Kayode charged with obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 288 of the criminal code Cap 10 Vol II Laws of The Gambia.

According to the  particulars  of  the offence, on or about the month of December 2008 at Farato village Kombo North, Western Region, in the republic of The Gambia, the accused Ismaila Leigh with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of D12, 000 from one Mr. Lamin Jawara by giving him some charms with the pretext that he will earn more money and to travel to Europe when in fact such representation was false.

When the charge sheet was read to him and interpreted to him in the language he claims to understand, he pleaded not guilty.

At that juncture the case was adjourned to a later date.
