Man arraigned for alleged shop-breaking, stealing

An accused person, Dembo Jatta, was on 18 December 2014 arraigned before Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and charged with shop-breaking and stealing.

Prosecutors alleged that Dembo Jatta, on 13 December 2014 at Bakau in the Kanifing Municipality, unlawfully broke into the shop of one Maimuna Jobe with the intention to steal, and thereby committed an offence.

It was also alleged that Dembo Jatta on the same date, year and place stole a DVD player valued at D1,500, a stand fan valued at D1,000, DVD cassettes valued at D1,000, two cutting hair scissors valued at D1,400 and cash amounting to D3,200, totaling D9,000 all being the property of Maimuna Jobe, and thereby committed an offence.

He denied the allegation and was granted bail in the sum of D100,000 with a Gambian surety, who should swear to an affidavit of means and deposit an ID card to the registrar.

The case was adjourned for hearing.
