Police have arrested one Bakary Baldeh, a resident of Kombo Wellingara, West Coast Region, for reportedly stabbing one Bubacarr Darboe, to death; The Point has been reliably informed.

The suspect is currently under the custody of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) as investigation into the matter deepens. The accused was reported to have stabbed the deceased with a scissor multiple times, leaving him in a pool of blood.

The spokesperson of The GPF, Lamin Njie, confirmed the development to The Point. The incident, he added, happened on Wednesday. “The victim and the accused person had and argument which resulted to a fight. However, they were separated, but the accused later attacked the victim with a scissor, stabbing him multiple times.”

The deceased, he explained, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Fajikunda Health Centre, but was later referred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for medical attention. “We received information on Thursday morning that the deceased (Bubacarr Darboe) has passed away.”

PRO Njie urged the youths of the country to be engaged in meaningful and productive issues and to desist from crimes and its related issues. “If anyone got offended in any way, the police and the court are here to settle it. However, it is important we desist from taking the laws in our own hands.”

“The youths of the country need to manage and control their anger rather than attacking each other. The police and the court are here to address problems. The laws of the country are clear on violence and assault. Therefore, the GPF will enforce them.”

He called on religious leaders, parent and civil society groups to help in complementing the efforts of the police in sensitising their children on the need to maintain peace.
