Mali beats Gambia 3-2 in international friendly

Football team last Thursday beats Gambian Senior Female team 3-2 in an international friendly played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The friendly was part of preparations for the female Scorpions who will host Nigeria early June in the first leg of second round in the qualifiers for 2018 African Women Championship to be played in Ghana.

The senior Scorpions will travel to Nigeria for the return leg a week later.  At the time of going to press on Sunday, the two sides were playing the second friendly game at the Stadium.

This is the first time Gambia is participating in the qualifiers. The girls eliminated Burkina Faso in the first round and will be hoping to make history by eliminating Africa’s powerhouse, the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
