Last year’s league winner, MacDonald United were crowned champions of the Banjul Mayoress sponsored Super Cup final after defeating the 2018 knockout winners Jamesen 4-1 on post-match penalty shootout, following a deadlock in the regulation time.

Both teams made a brilliant performance as they ended up goalless in the curtain raiser final sponsored by Rohey Malick Lowe, Mayoress of the Banjul City Council (BCC) which is meant to commence the Banjul Nawettan season.

MacDonald United goalkeeper substitute Dodou Bass stole the show during the final after saving two penalty shots and scored the winning kick to win the final 4-1 for his side, giving him the title man-of-the-match.

Pa Dodou Jagne of MacDonald expressed delights for the Banjul curtain raiser final, saying it wasn’t an easy game but thanked God for emerging victorious.

Jamesen head coach Yusupha Drammeh said he was pleased with the performance of his players, despite losing the game, adding that he was also happy for making it a well contested game as they won through penalty shootout

As winners, MacDonald United were awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D12, 000, while Jamesen pocketed a consolation prize of D10, 000

The curtain raiser, which was solely sponsored by Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayoress of Banjul City Council (BBC) is meant to kick start the Banjul Nawettan season.

As part of her support and benevolence to the young people of Banjul, Mayoress Lowe also paid for the registration fee of all the Banjul proper Nawettan teams.
