general of Department of Livestock services Dr. Abdou Ceesay have praised the
African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) for their
continued support to Gambia’s livestock sector.
Mr. Ceesay made the remark during the validation seminar of the 2019 Animal Health Bill of The Gambia and the 2000 Amendments of the Gambia Veterinary Council Act.
Held at Baobab holiday resort in Bijilo, the forum brought together participants from various livestock sectors. It was supported by AU-IBAR.
Mr. Ceesay said considering the important role that the livestock sector plays in Gambia’s socio-economic development, through the ministry of agriculture targets to modernise its veterinary legislation in order to enhance the performance of the veterinary services for improved livestock sector in the country.
He said through its partnership with AU-IBAR, the continental body agreed to support the country in reviewing and updating her veterinary legislation, saying the process started and culminated in the production of an Animal Health Bill, proposed amendments to the GVC Act 2000 and proposed amendments to the obsolete diseases of animals Act 1994 regulations.
